Pleasantville, N.Y. - The men's basketball team opened the 2021-22 campaign at the Conference Challenge, hosted by Pace University. Molloy was downed by the host Setters yesterday (Nov. 13), 73-67, before falling to Adelphi University this afternoon, 80-75.
Pace 73, Molloy 67
- The Lions opened the contest on an 11-2 run, the largest lead of the half.
- A three-pointer from junior Pierce Boczar put Molloy in front, 29-21, with seven minutes left in the first half.
- The Setters ended the half on a 17-4 run to lead, 41-35, at the half.
- Pace would not relinquish the lead through the final 20 minutes before earning the victory.
- Junior William Muller netted 23 points in his return to the maroon and white.
- Boczar (16) and freshman Darren Fergus (12) both finished in double digits.
- Redshirt sophomore Kendell Ogilvie led with seven rebounds and four steals while totaling six points in his debut in maroon and white.
Adelphi 80, Molloy 75
- A jumper from junior Frankie Phelan and a three-pointer from Muller gave Molloy its only lead of the first half, 9-7, before the Panthers netted the next 17-straight points, taking a 24-9 lead that the Lions would be unable to overcome.
- The maroon and white would work the score to as close as five, 80-75, to end the contest.
- Fergus led the Lions with 20 points. Muller recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
- Phelan (14) and Ogilvie (13) also ended in double digits.
- Senior Steven Torre led with eight rebounds while adding eight points.
