Volleyball Falls Short at Bridgeport

Bridgeport, Conn. - The volleyball team returned to action at the University of Bridgeport, falling 3-0 from Hubbell Gym. Molloy sits at 10-12 (5-4 ECC) while UB improved to 14-8 (7-2 ECC).

How it Happened
  • Neither team was able to establish a lead in the first half of the first set until the home team tallied five-straight points to go in front, 13-8.
  • A kill from senior Graciela Cruz and blocks from Cruz and freshman Madison Wakely brought the maroon and white within one later, 16-15, but UB took the next three points to re-establish the lead before taking the first set.
  • The score was knotted seven times through the first half of the second set. 
  • A kill from freshman Rebecca Meier paired with a kill and three aces from graduate student Kassie Akouri Tejedor gave Molloy a 14-12 lead.
  • An ace and a kill from Meier and a kill from sophomore Chye Davis increased the lead to 18-13.
  • Bridgeport tied the contest, 23-23. The score would be tied three more times down the stretch until the home team took the final two points to take the two-set victory.
  • The Lions led for much of the third set, including by as much as six, 16-10.
  • UB responded by taking 11 of the next 14, including six in a row, to go in front, 21-19.
  • Molloy would come within one, but was unable to regain the lead before dropping the set and sealing the contest.
Top Performances
  • Cruz led the Lions with nine kills and three blocks. Wakely also added three blocks. 
  • Meier tallied eight kills to go with eight digs and two aces.
  • Akouri Tejedor recorded 17 assists, nine digs, five kills, and three aces. 
  • Sophomore Kathleen Doherty led with 13 digs and sdded six assists while freshman Alex Brown had nine digs and two assists. 
  • Sophomore Brianna Medina added three assists and four digs. 
Up Next
Molloy returns home next Saturday (Nov. 6) for the first time since Oct. 2 as they host Roberts Wesleyan College at 12:00 p.m.
