Men's Soccer Shut Out Against Nyack, 2-0

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's soccer team was downed 2-0 by the Warriors of Nyack College this afternoon from John A. Darcy Field. With the victory, Nyack sits at an even 8-8 on the season while Molloy fell to 8-6-2 in 2021.

How it Happened
  • The Warriors started off quickly as Marvin Lugmeier sent the ball across the field to Mitchell Reed, who headed the ball past graduate student Nick Conklu to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Molloy put some pressure on the visitors in the final five minutes of the first half, including a shot from senior Oscar Magnusson who forced a save from Marco Roessle.
  • Freshman Andy Blanco took two shots in the first five minutes of the second half, continuing the maroon and white's offensive effort, forcing one save.
  • The Lions' best shot came from an open graduate student Jesse Schleeper in the 62nd minute, but the forward missed just wide of the net. 
  • Nyack responded a minute later as Reed tapped in his second goal of the contest off a pass from Javier Plaza.
  • The maroon and white forced two more saves through the final 20 minutes before time expired.
Top Performances
  • Freshman Matt Laya-Vetell and Blanco each led with three shots.
  • Magnusson, Schleeper, and Meyer each recorded two. 
  • Conklu made three saves on five shots faced. 
  • The Lions outshot the Warriors 13-10 and maintained a 4-2 advantage on corner kick opportunities.
