Cruz, Meier Reach Double Digits in Volleyball Win at D'Youville

Buffalo, N.Y. - The volleyball team topped D'Youville College, 3-1, this afternoon from College Center Gym to improve to 9-11 on the season and 4-3 in East Coast Conference play.

How it Happened
  • After a back-and-forth start to the first set, the maroon and white pulled in front, 13-9, after a string of five-straight points.
  • D'Youville would come within one three times down the stretch, but the Molloy advantage was enough to give the road team the first set.
  • Two kills from junior Graciela Cruz, two blocks from sophomore Colleen Moulder, and two aces from junior Nicole Wagner helped the Lions to an 8-1 lead in the second set that the Saints were unable to overcome.
  • The home team scored eight-straight points in the third set to go in front, 14-10. 
  • Molloy would tie the score down the stretch after three consecutive points, 24-24, but D'Youville took the next two to take the third set and avoid the sweep.
  • The Saints led midway through the fourth set, 15-11, but the maroon and white would take nine of 11 points to go in front, 20-17, featuring consecutive aces from sophomore Brianna Medina
  • The home team would come within two, 21-19, but Molloy would walk away with the 3-1 victory.
Top Performances
  • The maroon and white's offense was led by 16 kills from Cruz, who also added five digs, three assists, and two blocks.
  • She was joined in double digits with 11 kills from Meier, who added four digs.
  • Graduate student Kassie Akouri Tejedor had a double-double with 31 assists and 16 digs to go with a team-leading three aces.
  • Freshman Alex Brown put up a career-high five blocks while Moulder added four. The pair each tallied eight kills.
  • Sophomore Kathleen Doherty led with 18 digs.
