Worcester, Mass. - Junior Jesse Schleeper netted both goals for the Molloy men's soccer team as they defeated the Assumption Greyhounds in overtime, 2-1, Wednesday evening at Brian Kelly Stadium. The Lions improved to 7-4-1 overall, while the Greyhounds fell to 1-9-1.
How it Happened
● Both teams had 13 shots, but Molloy out-shot Assumption 10-5 in the second half. The Lions also put five of the total efforts on goal to the Greyhounds' three.
● Molloy faced eight shots in the first half, but graduate student Nick Conklu made big stops in both the 17th and 25th minutes to keep the match scoreless heading into the break.
● In the 57th minute, Schleeper was denied by Assumption goalkeeper George Dixon IV.
● Schleeper fired a couple more shots before finding the back of the net in the 69th minute off a pass from senior Oscar Magnusson.
● With 15 minutes to go, the Greyhounds struck the post.
● Senior Kenneth Garcia and sophomore Andrew Davila each had their efforts saved in the 79th minute.
● Assumption netted the equalizer in the 82nd minute to force overtime.
● 16 seconds into the extra period, Schleeper scored again to win it for Molloy.
● The Lions are now 1-1-1 this season in overtime/double overtime games.
