Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's basketball team advanced to the semifinal round of the East Coast Conference Tournament with a 68-61 victory over New York Tech. Molloy improved to 12-16 on the season with the victory. Senior Nick Corbett became the fourth person in the league's history to top 2000 points while also becoming Molloy's leading scorer, topping John Petrucelli's standing record of 2011 points. 


How it Happened

• The maroon and white took a five-point lead after a 6-0 run, 12-7, with 14 minutes left to play in the opening half.
• The Bears regained the lead, 17-16, 33 seconds later.
• The score would be knotted three times through the next eight minutes, with the teams finding themselves knotted, 22-22, with just under six minutes left to play. 
• New York Tech led, 28-23, with 3:27 on the clock following a six-point run.
• Sophomore Frankie Phelan hit a jumper in the final seconds of the half to bring Molloy within three, 32-29, at the break.
• The visitors increased its lead to nine, 44-35, in the first eight minutes of the second half. 
• An eight-point run brought the Lions within one, 44-43, with 10:45 remaining in the contest.
•  Back-to-back three-pointers from Corbett reestablished the lead for Molloy, 56-51, with six and a half minutes on the clock.
• Corbett and senior Nolan Kelly each sunk foul shots in the final seconds to increase its lead to 68-61 as the buzzer sounded.

Top Performances

• Corbett netted 25 points while adding three rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal.
• Kelly tallied 12 points on the back of a 7-of-7 performance from the foul line while adding four rebounds. 
• Sophomore William Muller led the team with seven rebounds.
• Senior Josh Dennis nabbed four steals. 
• Corbett, Dennis, Phelan, and sophomore Pano Pavlidis each dished out two assists.
