West Haven, Conn. - The men's basketball team picked up its third-straight victory in the team's final non-conference game of the regular season this evening, topping the New Haven Chargers 74-67 from Charger Gymnasium. Molloy improved to 11-14 on the season with the victory.
How it Happened
- The contest started with a 14-2 run in favor of the home team.
- A 7-0 run from Molloy brought the score within five, 14-9, with 12 minutes left to play in the first half.
- The maroon and white continued to chip away at the deficit, tying the score before taking the lead, 30-25, on a 10-0 run including back-to-back three-pointers from senior Nick Corbett with just over 90 seconds remaining in the opening frame.
- Field goals from Corbett and junior Steven Torre in the final minute helped Molloy maintain a 34-29 lead into the halftime break.
- The visitors nearly doubled its lead in the opening minutes of the second half, leading 41-32.
- The Chargers would come within one, 41-40, but the Lions responded with a 15-2 run, including 10 points from sophomore William Muller, to take its largest lead of the night, 56-42.
- New Haven would come within seven as time expired on the clock, handing Molloy its third-straight victory.
Top Performances
- Corbett led all scorers, netting 27 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including going 5-of-10 from three-point range. This is the fourth-straight contest the guard has topped 20 points.
- Muller matched a career-high 16 points while adding six rebounds and one block.
- Sophomore Frank Phelan reached double digits with 10 points for the third-straight game.
- Redshirt junior Justin Caldwell and senior Josh Dennis each pulled down six boards with Dennis and Torre each adding four assists.
