Old Westbury, N.Y - The men's basketball team opened the second half of East Coast Conference play this afternoon at New York Tech, falling 72-70 in overtime. The loss set the maroon and white at 8-11 on the season and 5-4 in league play.
How it Happened
- After an evenly matched start to the contest, the home team took a 10-point advantage following three-straight baskets, 23-13, with 8:06 left in the opening frame.Â
- Molloy cut the lead to just two points, 26-24, with five minutes on the clock on the back of an eight-point run.
- New York Tech regained its double digit lead before senior Nick Corbett sunk two foul shots to set the score at 40-32 at the half.
- A 13-2 run from the maroon and white cut the Bears' lead to just one point, 50-49, with just under 11 minutes left to play.
- A basket from redshirt junior Justin Caldwell put Molloy in front, 55-54, for the first time since 17:29 of the first half.
- The two teams exchanged leads through the final four minutes of play. Freshman James Montgomery went to the line, sinking one of two shots to knot the score 67-67 to force an overtime period.
- The Bears netted the only field goal of the extra frame to take a two-point lead before taking the contest, 72-70

- Corbett led the game with 34 points, going 15-of-16 from the charity stripe.
- Montgomery and senior Josh Dennis each added eight points.
- Caldwell pulled down a team-leading 10 boards.
- Junior Steven Torre added three assists with Montgomery, Torre, and Caldwell ech putting up two steals.Â
