Paw Prints of the Past: December 6 in Molloy Lions History

In "Paw Prints of the Past", we revisit the memorable events that occurred on this date in the history of the Molloy Department of Athletics.

2019
  • The top-seeded volleyball team continued its run through the NCAA East Regional Tournament with a thrilling five-set victory over Saint Anselm College in front of a packed house in Quealy Gymnasium. 
  • Kacey Affrunti paced the Lions with 20 kills and 10 blocks for her first career double-double. Sophia Smith tallied a complete stat line with 50 assists, 13 digs, eight kills, and four blocks. 
  • The women's soccer coaching staff of Steve Price, Steve Maye, Kayla Roundsman, Jesse Corke, and Thomas Paris were recognized as the United Soccer Coaches East Region Staff of the Year after winning the program's first-ever ECC Championship and advancing to one of the top-16 teams in the nation.
2018
  • Esports debuted as a club sport at Molloy, competing against New York Tech at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
2017
  • Kevin DesLauriers earned the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II Coach of the Year award for his success at the helm of the maroon and white. 
  • In his first season, DesLauriers helped guide the Lions to a 24-6 record, taking home the program's first-ever ECC Championship and advancing to the NCAA East Region Semifinal after posting a 6-24 record just the season prior.
2008
  • Girard Fitts' dunk put the men's basketball team in front, 63-62, with 23 seconds to go in overtime, securing the eventual 64-62 win. Fitts led all Lions with 17 points.
  • Kymira Woodberry and Tatiana Lopez each netted 17 points in a high scoring 97-72 affair for the women's basketball team. Woodberry added 14 boards for a double-double.
1986
  • Women's basketball topped Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 77-60
