Amherst, N.Y. - The men's basketball team fell at Daemen College, 91-83, this evening from Lumsden Gymnasium. Molloy outscored the Wildcats in the second half, holding the home team to under 40-percent shooting, but were unable to overcome the 10-point deficit faced at the half. The Lions fell to 7-10 on the campaign with the loss and now sit at 4-3 in East Coast Conference play.
How it Happened
- Molloy led by as much as six points, 11-5, to start the contest. The Lions maintained an advantage throughout the first 14 minutes of action.
- The Wildcats knotted the score, 28-28, with 6:24 left to play in the half before taking a 44-34 lead into the break on the back of an 18-6 run. Both of Molloy's field goals came from three-pointers from senior Nick Corbett.
- Daemen was able to maintain its lead early in the second half by making four-straight three-point field goals.
- After trailing by as much as 13, 63-50, the maroon and white rallied to come within four, 68-64, following a 14-5 run.
- The home team would regain its double digit lead with just over five minutes to play, but a layup from sophomore Pano Pavlidis and back-to-back triples from Corbett and senior Nolan Kelly brought Molloy back to within three, 77-74, with 3:59 on the clock.
- Daemen took a 10-point lead after taking nine of the next 11 points, leading 86-76 with 90 seconds left to play.
- A three-pointer from junior Steven Torre would bring the maroon and white within six, 89-83, but the Lions were unable to overtake the Wildcats, falling 91-83.
Top Performances
- Molloy was led by 33 points from Corbett, who shot 14-of-27 on the evening, including going 5-of-10 from long distance. The senior added five rebounds, four assists, and one steal.
- Torre led the team with five assists and added 12 points.
- Freshman James Montgomery netted 11 points to go with seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
- Pavlidis had a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds to go with two blocks.
Molloy remains on the road as they take on Roberts Wesleyan College on Sunday (Jan. 26) from Rochester, N.Y. at 4:00 p.m.
