Morales, Cestaro Net Goals in Win Over New Haven

West Haven, Conn. – The Molloy men's soccer team defeated the New Haven Chargers, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Kathy Zolad Stadium. The Lions improved to 1-0-1, while the Chargers fell to 1-2.

How it Happened
  • New Haven outshot the Lions 13-2 in the first half, but freshman Sergio Peralta made four saves to keep the match scoreless after 45 minutes of play.
  • The Chargers took a 1-0 lead on a goal from JP Viruet in the 46th minute.
  • Senior Paul Morales evened the contest, 1-1, on a penalty kick in the 52nd minute.
  • The Lions jumped ahead, 2-1, in the 71st minute on a tally from senior Anthony Cestaro.
Top Performances
  • Peralta made seven saves in his first collegiate start.
  • Morales and Cestaro netted their first goals of 2019.
  • Senior Angelo Bordenca recorded a shot on goal.
Coach's Comments
  • "It was a tough start," head coach Danny Longo said. "For one, it was one of the worst halves I've ever seen, and then, we let up a goal in the first 47 seconds of the second half. But it was a great comeback and our kids had great fight."
