Men's Soccer Draws East Stroudsburg in Season-Opener, 1-1

East Stroudsburg, Pa. – The Molloy men's soccer team and the East Stroudsburg Warriors played to a 1-1 draw Thursday evening at Eiler-Martin Stadium. The Lions moved to 0-0-1 with the tie.

How it Happened
  • The Warriors recorded the first three shots of the game.
  • Junior Oscar Magnusson created the first chance for the Lions, but his try was denied by ESU goalkeeper Evan Miele.
  • ESU took a 1-0 advantage on a goal from Anton Lysell in the 42nd minute.
  • The home team looked to increase its lead, but sophomore Dennis Mejia, who made five saves in the second stanza, stopped Irvin Zuzic in the 50th and 52nd minutes, respectively.
  • Graduate student Nick Bigilin found the back of the net in the 80th minute to knot the match at one.
  • The contest was tied, 1-1, after 90 minutes of play.
  • The Warriors outshot the Lions 2-0 in the first overtime session.
  • Senior Angelo Bordenca fired a shot in the 104th minute, but his chance was stopped by Miele.
  • Mejia denied both of ESU's tries in the second extra session to keep the match even.

  • Bigilin tallied his first goal with the Lions.
  • Mejia made eight saves in his collegiate debut.
  • Magnusson tallied one assist and led the team with two shots.
Coach's Comments 
  • "Overall, I am happy with the result," head coach Danny Longo said. "I would have liked to get the win on opening night, but to be down 1-0 for as long as we were on the road, I'll take it. Our kids fought hard to get the draw."
