Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team faced nationally-ranked LewIs University this afternoon. Despite forcing the game to a fifth and deciding set, the maroon and white were defeated, 3-2. Molloy sits at 8-3 on the season with the loss while Lewis improved to 9-1.

How it Happened

• After an evenly-matched first set, the Lions and Flyers found themselves tied, 16-16. Molloy put together a five-point run, including two kills from freshman Rachel Phillips, to take a 20-16 lead. 
• Lewis would knot the score, 24-24, Each team would continue to stay within one point, until three errors from the Flyers gave the maroon and white the necessary two-point lead to take the set, 30-28.
• The Flyers responded in the second set, establishing a 17-6 lead after scoring 12 straight points.
• Despite trailing for much of the third set, the Lions were able to dig deep and take a 23-21 lead after putting together a six-point run on the serving of junior Allie Lackner. 
• Molloy took two of the final three points to earn the set win and take a 2-1 lead. 
• Lewis once again responded in the next set, taking the 25-15 victory to force a deciding set.
• The visitors took a 10-3 lead, and held the Lions to just three kills in the set.

Top Performances

• Junior Kacey Affrunti led the maroon and white with 13 kills while fifth year Carly Banks added 11. Seniors Hailey Wehr and Sophia Smith rounded out the top scorers with eight and seven kills, respectively.
• Smith added 40 assists and 15 digs for a double-double.
• Senior Jessica Fischetti tallied 25 digs on the afternoon, adding four assists.
• She was joined in double digit digs by Lackner (17), sophomore Nicole Wagner (17), and sophomoe Kathleen Doherty (13).
