Volleyball Sweeps Holy Family in NCAA Tournament Rematch

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 3-0 victory over Holy Family University in a rematch of 2018's NCAA East Regional Semifinal match. Molloy improved to 7-2 with the victory while Holy Family fell to 4-4.

How it Happened
  • The Lions started the contest by scoring six straight points. 
  • Holy Family came within two, 17-15, before the maroon and white strung together another six-point run to take a 23-15 lead.
  • The Tigers scored six points of their own to close the gap to just 24-22, but fifth year outside hitter Carly Banks sealed the first set in favor of the Lions with a kill. 
  • HFU took a 13-10 lead in the second set, but the maroon and white took six of the next eight points to take a 16-15 lead.
  • The Lions trailed by one point, 20-19, until two kills from Banks and one from junior Kacey Affrunti helped propel the home team in front, 23-20.
  • Banks and freshman Chye Davis recorded the final two points to take a 2-0 lead on the contest.
  • Molloy took an early lead in the third set, going up 9-3 after a four-point run.
  • The Tigers would come within one, 17-16, but were unable to knot the score before the maroon and white took both the set and the match.

Top Performances
  • Affrunti led the Lions' offensive efforts, tallying 11 kills and two service aces. The junior added four blocks and six digs.
  • Banks joined Affrunti in double digits with 10 kills.
  • Senior Jessica Fishetti topped the team with 12 digs while adding two assists. Senior Sophia Smith added 31 assists, four blocks, and seven digs.
