Fischetti Tops 1000 Digs in Sweep at Day One of Sandy Hoffman Tournament

Waltham, Mass. - The volleyball streak continued as the Lions opened the first day of the Sandy Hoffman Memorial Tournament with a pair of three-set wins over Rollins College and Caldwell University. Molloy improves to 6-0 on the season.

  • The maroon and white took a 10-4 lead in the first set before the Tars responded by taking eight of the next 10 points to tie the contest, 12-12.
  • Molloy regained a lead, 22-19, before Rollins once again responded with a run of five points to bring the contest to set point, 24-22.
  • Kills from senior Sophia Smith and fifth year Carly Banks, paired with an ace from freshman Brynne Winkelman put the score at 25-24 in favor of the Lions, who would eventually take the first set, 27-25.
  • The second set mirrored the first, with the score being tied on 11 occasion, including as late as 24-24.
  • Banks and senior Hailey Wehr fired off the final two points of the set to give the Lions the 26-24 win.
  • Molloy held Rollins to just nine kills in the final set to earn the match victory.
  • Banks recorded 17 kills in the victory while Fischetti led with 18 digs, setting her at 1,002 on her career in maroon and white.
  • Sophomore Kathleen Doherty (17) and junior Allie Lackner (10) each reached season-high dig totals.
  • Smith and Winkelman each tallied two aces while freshman Chye Davis recorded two blocks.

  • The Cougars were limited to a .078 attacking percentage on the match, compared to a .220 performance from Molloy.
  • The Lions led by as much as nine points in the first set, 17-8.
  • A 6-1 run to start the match propelled the maroon and white to a dominant victory in the second set of the match.
  • The Cougars tied the contest in the third set, 9-9, but Molloy took advantage of five straight errors to take a 14-9 lead.
  • Banks and junior Kacey Affrunti topped the team with seven kills and two blocks.
  • Molloy's offense saw kills from 13 different members of the team, including senior Tara Carlin, who recorded a kill in her first contest since 2017 due to injury.
  • Fischetti added 19 digs to go with a season-high five aces.
