Corbett, Jenkins Top 20 in 92-77 Victory Over Mercy

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – The men's basketball team defeated the Mavericks of Mercy College, 92-77, this afternoon at Victory Hall. Five members of the maroon and white reached double digits, including senior Curtis Jenkins and junior Nick Corbett each topping the 20-point mark. Molloy improved to 16-8 on the season and 12-3 in East Coast Conference play with the win.
 
How it Happened
  • Four straight three-pointers from sophomore Steven Torre and Corbett gave the Lions a double digit lead, 33-19, midway through the opening half.
  • Mercy would come within three, 38-35, with 5:47 left until halftime. Molloy ended the half on a 15-7 run to take a 53-42 lead into the break.
  • The Mavericks once again worked the score within two in the first 10 minutes of the second half, 59-57.
  • A 13-4 run from the maroon and white reclaimed the visitors' double digit advantage with 8:17 left to play.
  • Molloy would lead by as much as 18 points before earning the 92-77 victory.
 
Top Performances
  • Corbett topped the scoresheet with a game-high 25 points, shooting 10-of-14 from the field with four triples. The junior also added three assists and two steals.
  • Jenkins had a double-double with 20 points and 14 assists, also dishing out nine assists and two blocks.
  • Torre tallied 12 points on four three-pointers while adding four rebounds and three assists.
  • Senior Mike Torre and redshirt sophomore Justin Caldwell each added 10 points and combined for 11 rebounds.
  • Freshman Billy Muller added seven rebounds, six points, and two blocks.

Molloy heads to Queens College on Wednesday (Feb. 20) at 5:00 p.m.
