Torre Nets Game-High 21 Points in Victory Over Bridgeport, 78-69

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The men's basketball team, led by a game-high 21 points from senior Mike Torre, defeated the University of Bridgeport, 78-69. Molloy improved to 15-8 on the season and 11-3 in East Coast Conference play with the victory.

How it Happened
  • With the score tied 9-9, the maroon and white went on a 10-point run to take a 19-9 lead with 14 minutes left in the first half.
  • UB would come within two with 11 minutes on the clock, but Molloy would maintain its advantage through the opening 20 minutes of play, eventually taking a 47-42 lead into the break.
  • After Molloy extended the lead to as much as nine, 51-42, the Purple Knights brought the score within one, 58-57, with 12 minutes left in the contest.
  • Back-to-back jumpers from senior Chris O'Reilly paired with a layup from senior Curtis Jenkins gave the Lions an eight-point lead, 66-58, with just under eight minutes on the clock.
  • The maroon and white remained in front through the final seven minutes of play, scoring the final five points to set the final score at 78-69.

Top Performances
  • Torre's 21 points came on 8-of-17 shooting, including three three-pointers. The senior added a team-high nine rebounds and four steals. 
  • Redshirt sophomore Justin Caldwell and O'Reilly each added 12 points. Caldwell pulled down seven rebounds in the effort.
  • Jenkins topped the scoresheet with two blocks, along with freshman Billy Muller.
  • Junior Nick Corbett dished out six assists while nabbing four steals. 

Looking Ahead
The Lions head on the road on Saturday (Feb. 16) as they take on Mercy College at 2:00 p.m. from Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
