Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The Molloy men's soccer team defeated the Concordia Clippers, 3-2, Thursday evening at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions, who have won five straight contests, improved to 11-5-1, while the Clippers moved to 7-10. The 11 wins is the most Molloy has won since 2016 and is one shy of the program record of 12, which was set in 2008.
How it Happened
- Freshman Danny Muir led senior Angelo Bordenca for a goal in the eighth minute, which put the maroon and white ahead 1-0.
- In the 47th minute, senior Matt Miller scored on a corner kick to increase the home team's lead to 2-0.
- Dennis Limani scored for Concordia in the 65th minute to cut the Molloy lead to 2-1.
- The Clippers knotted the score, 2-2, on a tally from Nemanja Zivanovic in the 73rd minute.
- In the 90th minute, senior Anthony Cestaro set up junior Oscar Magnusson to net the game-winner with 24 seconds remaining.
Top Performances
- Magnusson recorded his third goal of the season and is second on the team with six assists.
- Cestaro leads the team in assists (8) and points (22).
- Bordenca netted his fifth goal of 2019, which is fifth on the team.
- Miller scored his first goal of the year.
- Muir and graduate student Nick Bigilin registered their firsts assists with the Lions.
- Sophomore Dennis Mejia made four saves.
