Volleyball Tops Bridgeport, 3-0

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team took on the University of Bridgeport in a battle to determine who would remain undefeated in East Coast Conference play. The Lions took the contest in three sets, improving to 11-3 on the season and 3-0 in league play. UB now stands at 13-3 on the season (2-1 ECC).

How it Happened
  • The score was knotted seven times throughout the first set, up to 14-14, before the maroon and white scored five consecutive points, including two kills from senior Hailey Wehr to take an 18-14 lead.
  • The home team maintained its advantage, ending the set on a three-point run to take a 1-0 lead.
  • After taking a 12-10 lead in the second set, the Lions remained in front on the efforts of a game-best .294 attack percentage.
  • Molloy took an early 8-3 lead in the third set, but the Purple Knights would respond and eventually take an 18-13 lead over the Lions.
  • The maroon and white regained the lead follwoing a five-point streak, going in front 20-19.
  • UB knotted the score, 23-23, but back-to-back kills from junior Kacey Affrunti sealed both the set and the match in favor of the home team.

Top Performances
  • Affrunti topped the scoresheet in kills (10), aces (3), and blocks (3).
  • Senior Sophia Smith and freshman Chye Davis also recorded three blocks with Smith adding 25 assists and 11 digs for a double-double to go with two aces.
  • Senior Jessica Fischetti recorded 22 digs while adding five assists.
  • Sophomore Kathleen Doherty joined her in double-digits with 14 digs.
