Volleyball Returns to the Win Column in 3-0 Victory Over Adelphi

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The volleyball team defeated the Panthers of Adelphi University, 3-0, this evening from Quealy Gymnasium. The victory sets the Lions at 16-4 on the season while the loss sets the Panthers at 10-5.

How it Happened
  • After a back-and-forth start to the contest, Molloy took the first sizeable lead of the game, 11-8. The Panthers responded with a four-point rally to take a one-point lead, but on the effort of a kill and an ace from sophomore Kathleen Doherty, the Lions regained the lead, 14-12.
  • The Panthers would come within four, 21-17, but the home team would take the first set following a kill from redshirt senior Carly Banks.
  • On the serving of senior Sophia Smith, the maroon and white opened the second set in front 8-2. Adelphi would come within two late, 20-18, but four-straight points on Smith's serving would secure the set for the Lions.
  • The maroon and white would never relinquish a lead in the third set, leading by as many as nine points before earning the 25-16 victory to seal the contest.

Top Performances
  • Doherty and Banks each led the  Lions with eight kills while senior Hailey Wehr and junior Kacey Affrunti each added seven.
  • Fischetti recorded 20 digs and two assitss while Smith fired three aces to go with 26 assists and seven digs.
  • Doherty added 12 digs and two aces while freshman Chye Davis led the team with three blocks.

The Lions head to New Haven, Conn. on Tuesday (Oct. 22) to take on Southern Connecticut State University at 7:00 p.m.
