Washington, D.C. – The East Coast Conference winning streak continued for the men's basketball team with a 65-63 victory over the University of the District of Columbia. Junior
Nick Corbett hit a buzzer-beating layup to secure a thrilling victory for the maroon and white. The Lions improved to 7-0 in league play and 11-5 on the season in the win.
How it Happened
- Molloy took a nine-point lead, 16-7, on a three-pointer from senior Curtis Jenkins after the first five minutes of play.
- The visitors maintained the lead through the first half, going in front by as much as 12 points on a trey from Corbett and headed into the locker room with a 43-31 lead.
- After the Lions took a 20-point lead, 60-40, with 11 minutes to go, the Firebirds mounted a comeback on a 21-2 run, cutting Molloy's lead to just one point, 62-61.
- With eight seconds on the clock, the home team tied the contest, 63-63.
- Corbett took the ball down the court and fired up the game-winning layup with just one second on the clock.
Top Performances
- Jenkins and Corbett each scored a game-high 20 points. Jenkins played 40 minutes and added 12 rebounds for a double-double to go along with three steals. Corbett dished two assists and hit four three-pointers.
- Juniors Josh Dennis and Nolan Kelly each added two assists while freshman Will Muller recorded a block for the maroon and white.
- Redshirt sophomore Justin Caldwell pulled down nine rebounds in the effort while senior Mike Torre scored eight points.
