Corbett Triple Leads Men's Basketball to Fifth-Straight Conference Win, Topping Daemen 72-71

Rochester, N.Y. – A three-pointer from junior Nick Corbett with five seconds on the clock gave the men's basketball team a 72-71 victory over Daemen College to remain undefeated in East Coast Conference play. 

How it Happened
  • Molloy led the Wildcats, 34-31 at the end of the first half, led by 11 points from senior Mike Torre.
  • Daemen took the lead four minutes into the second half of play, 42-40. The home team maintained its advantage for nearly the entire second half, with the Lions trailing by as much as 12 points in the final four minutes of action.
  • Molloy responded with a 17-4 run to end the contest, including 11 points from Corbett.
  • 18 points off turnovers as well as a 50% performance from three-point range led the Lions to the victory, despite shooting just 39.4% from the field.
 
Top Performances
  • Corbett led the team with 27 points. The junior shot 10-of-17 from the field and an astounding 6-of-10 from three-point range, matching a career-best. He also added a team-high seven rebounds and a game-high five assists.
  • Torre added 15 points and six rebounds while fellow senior Curtis Jenkins also finished with 12 points and six rebounds while nabbing a game-high four steals.
  • Freshman Billy Muller also pulled down six rebounds for the maroon and white.
  • Torre, Muller, juniors Josh Dennis and Nolan Kelly and redshirt sophomore Justin Caldwell each added a block in the effort.
 
Coach's Comments
 "Tonight was a great comeback win," explained head coach Charles Marquardt. "The team showed mental toughness and resilience against a quality team. A big time shot from Nick Corbett sealed it."
 
Looking Ahead
The maroon and white continue the western New York trip on Sunday (Jan. 13) against Roberts Wesleyan College. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 p.m.
