Garden City, N.Y. – The volleyball program fell to the Adelphi University Panthers, 3-0, in a hard fought match at the Center for Recreation and Sport. It marked the first time the Lions have been swept in three sets since falling to Daemen College on October 13 of 2016.

How it Happened
- The Lions fell behind, 9-6, in the first set before rallying for three straight points on kills from senior Jeanne Reinis and sophomore Kacey Affrunti paired with a service ace from junior Jessica Fischetti to tie the contest, 9-9.
- From there, the scoring continued back-and-forth until Molloy took a 23-22 lead following a service error from Adelphi. The Panthers, however, strung together two consecutive points to lead, 24-23. The Lions once again tied the contest, 24-24, but the set ended on an Adelphi kill followed by a service ace.
- The maroon and white fell behind 4-0 to start the second set, but chipped away at the Panthers' lead, eventually going in front 20-19 after a kill from junior Devon Hagerstrom. Three straight points from the home team put Adelphi back in front, 22-20, before the Panthers eventually hung on to take the 26-24 victory.
- Molloy put together a five-point run in the third set to go in front, 8-4, before later jumping in front by as much as 13-8. Adelphi, however, fired off five points of their own to knot the score.
- With Molloy in front, 17-14, the Panthers had another five-point run to take a late lead, 19-17. The maroon and white would claw back, taking a one-point advantage, 25-24. Unable to string together multiple points, the Lions fell, 28-26 in the final set.
Top Performances
- Affrunti led the Lions, totaling 15 kills on a .478 hitting percentage.
- Junior Sophia Smith added a double-double, totaling 31 kills to go along with 13 digs.
- Junior Jessica Fischetti led Molloy with 15 digs.
Coach's Comments
"We are still adjusting to having new personnel on the floor that are still learning what we need to do to be more successful," said head coach
Kevin DesLauriers. "It's going to be a process."
