Volleyball Sweeps Roberts Wesleyan, 3-0

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The volleyball team bounced back with a 3-0 victory over Roberts Wesleyan College this afternoon at Quealy Gymnasium. With the victory, Molloy improved to 8-4 on the season and 3-2 in East Coast Conference play. The loss set the Redhawks at 3-11 on the campaign (2-3 ECC).

How it Happened
  • The Lions took advantage of a 5-0 run to start the set, never relinquishing the lead and eventually earning the set, 25-17.
  • Molloy pulled in front, 10-4, in the second set off back-to-back kills from junior Hailey Wehr.
  • The lead extended, 16-7, on the strong serving of senior Jeanne Reinis.
  • The maroon and white hit at .308 on the set, earning the 10-point victory.
  • After back-and-forth scoring to start the third game, Molloy put together a five-point run, capped off with a kill from redshirt junior Carly Banks, to take a 14-7 lead before sealing the contest with a 25-16 victory.
 
Top Performances
  • Banks led the maroon and white with 12 kills, attacking at a .346 clip.
  • Sophomore Kacey Affrunti also reached double digits, totaling 10 kills at a .333 hitting percentage.
  • Junior Sophia Smith tallied 31 assists, while junior libero Jessica Fischetti added three helpers and 16 digs.
  • Reinis recorded three aces.
 
Looking Ahead
Molloy takes on New York Institute of Technology on Friday (Oct. 5). The re-match of the ECC Championship is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. in Recreation Hall.
