Symister Leads Men's Soccer Past Caldwell in Overtime

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Junior Zuberi Symister's goal 2:50 into overtime led the Molloy men's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over the Caldwell Cougars Thursday evening at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions improved to 2-4. The Cougars fell to 0-5-1.

How it Happened
  • Sophomore Sander Golmen opened the scoring for Caldwell in the 18th minute.
  • The Lions tied the match in the 23rd minute after junior Paul Morales converted on a penalty kick.
  • Molloy took the lead on a tally from junior Anthony Cestaro in the 32nd minute.
  • The Cougars tied the match in the 88th minute after junior Erlend Aase found the back of the net.
  • Symister ended the match in the 93rd minute.
 
Top Performances 
  • Symister recorded his first career goal.
  • Morales has scored in consecutive matches and has two goals on the season.
  • Cestaro logged his third goal and first assist of the 2018 campaign.
  • Redshirt senior Kenny Joseph has registered an assist in back-to-back contests and has a pair of helpers on the season.
  • Raul Bonilla made two saves to pick up his second win of the season. The senior has 17 career victories.  
  • The maroon and white, which went 0-7 at home last season, improved to 2-0 at John A. Darcy Field.
 
Coach's Comments 
  • "I couldn't be happier for Zuberi, the kid works his butt off and deserves everything he gets," head coach Danny Longo said. "Cestaro was unbelievable the last 65 minutes, if he goes, we go. It feels good to get the win and be 2-0 at home."

  • The Lions travel to play Daemen Saturday, September 15. The match against the Wildcats is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
