Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Bentley

North Andover, Mass. – The Molloy men's soccer team was defeated by the Bentley Falcons, 4-2, Friday afternoon at Martone-Mejail Field in the Merrimack Tournament. The Lions moved to 0-1 with the loss. The Falcons improved to 1-0.

How it Happened
  • Junior Anthony Cestaro opened the scoring in the 12th minute to put Molloy ahead 1-0.
  • Bentley tied the match in the 30th minute on a tally from senior Julian Steward.
  • The Falcon took a 2-1 advantage after junior Alec Foster found the back of the net in the 45th minute.
  • The Lions knotted the contest on a goal from sophomore Nikola Aleksic in the 48th minute.
  • Junior Nick Halliday put Bentley ahead 3-2 in the 74th minute.
  • The Falcons added an insurance marker off the foot of Foster in the 88th minute.
Top Performances
  • Cestaro, who led the team with five shots, tallied his first goal of the season in the defeat.
  • Aleksic scored his first goal with the Lions in the match.
  • Junior Matt Miller and sophomore Oscar Magnusson each recorded their first assist of the season.
  • Junior Paul Morales registered four shots.
  • Senior goalkeeper Raul Bonilla made five saves.
Coach's Comments
  • "It's a tough way to start the year, but I'm proud of the group. We battled for 90 minutes and just came up a bit short," head coach Danny Longo said.

  • The maroon and white play host Merrimack on Sunday, September 1. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
