Three Top 20 Points in Overtime Loss at LIU Post, 89-83

Corbett, Dennis Notch Double-Doubles in Effort

Brookville, N.Y. (Feb. 7, 2018) – Juniors Curtis Jenkins and Mike Torre and sophomore Nick Corbett each dropped 20 points in an overtime loss for men's basketball at LIU Post. Molloy falls to 5-18 on the season and 4-9 in East Coast Conference play in the defeat.

The maroon and white led by as much as seven points, 57-50, midway through the second half. An 8-0 run from the Pioneers put the home team in front, 61-59, with just over seven minutes left to play. LIU Post went up by five with four minutes remaining on the clock, but a trey from Jenkins cut the deficit to just two points, 69-67. Corbett nailed a jumper with three seconds to play, forcing an extra frame.

LIU Post struck first in overtime, setting the tone for the five minutes of extra play. Despite another jumper from Corbett, the home team hit back-to-back shots from beyond the arc to take a six-point advantage, 77-71. Sophomore Josh Dennis sunk a layup off a steal to bring the Lions within two in the final minute, but Molloy was unable to overcome the original deficit, falling 89-83.

The Lions were led by 21 points from Jenkins and Corbett. Jenkins added six boards, six assists, four steals, and one block while Corbett notched a double-double, pairing 10 helpers with his 21 points. Dennis also tallied a double-double for Molloy, scoring 10 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Torre, who went 4-of-4 from three-point range on the evening, scored 12 of his 20 points in the first half. Fellow junior Derrick Okunpolor added eight boards and a career-high four blocks.

Molloy will host New York Institute of Technology on Saturday (Feb. 10) at 2:00 p.m. During the game, both teams will sport gold laces for Pediatric Cancer awareness.
