Men's Basketball Sweeps Queens with 62-59 Victory

Flushing, N.Y. (Feb. 3, 2018) - Fueled by a game-high 17 points from junior Curtis Jenkins, the men's basketball team defeated Queens College, 62-59. Molloy improved to 5-17 overall and 4-8 in East Coast Conference play, just one place shy of a playoff spot, while the Knights fell to 5-14 (3-9 ECC).

For the second time this season, the contest would come down to the final minute of play. The maroon and white led, 60-59, with 70 seconds on the clock. The Knights went to the line with 33 seconds, but missed both attempts. A fastbreak layup in the final two seconds from sophomore Nick Corbett sealed the contest for the Lions, completing the season sweep of Queens.

Jenkins, who tallied 10 of his points in the first half, put Molloy up, 25-19 midway through the first half. The Knights rallied to take a 28-27 lead with four minutes left in the half following a triple from Dwayne Henry. An 8-3 run to end the half sent the Lions into the break leading 35-31.

The lead changed hands five times through the first half of the second frame. Neither team maintained an advantage until a jumper from junior Derrick Okunpolor gave Molloy a four-point lead, 60-56, before Corbett's steal and layup sealed the contest in favor of the Lions.

Jenkins added nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals to his 17 points. Corbett added 16 points, six boards, two assists, one block, and a game-high four steals. Sophomore Josh Dennis rounded out the top scorers for Molloy with 10 points, two blocks, and two steals.

The Lions return to the court on Wednesday (Feb. 7) as they face LIU Post at 7:00 p.m. from the Pratt Recreation Center.
