O'Reilly's 20 Points Leads Men's Basketball Victory in ECC Opener at LIU Post 97-68

Brookville, N.Y. – Senior Chris O'Reilly netted a career-high 20 points to lead men's basketball to a 97-68 victory over LIU Post to open East Coast Conference play. With the victory, the maroon and white improve to 4-3 on the season.

How it Happened
  • The Pioneers got out to an early lead, 11-7, before four straight triples from O'Reilly as well as one from sophomore Steven Torre put Molloy ahead, 22-14. Back-to-back layups from senior Mike Torre put the visitors in front by double digits, 26-14, midway through the first half.
  • A trey from junior Nolan Kelly put Molloy in front by its largest lead of the half, 56-31, before taking a 24-point lead into the break.
  • The maroon and white kept its foot on the gas through the second half of play, not letting LIU Post get within 20 points.
  • On the evening, the Lions shot an impressive 42.9% from three-point range, hitting 15 of its 35 attempts while holding the Pioneers to under .300 from both the field and long distance.
 
Top Performances
  • O'Reilly's 20 points came off a 7-of-16 performance from the field, including six three-pointers.
  • Mike Torre tallied his second straight double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds while adding two blocks.
  • Senior Curtis Jenkins totaled 16 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
  • Freshman Billy Muller added 11 points and seven rebounds in the effort.
  • The maroon and white saw 44 points off the bench, including six from Kelly, Steven Torre, and senior Derrick Okunpolor.
  • Junior Nick Corbett, Steve Torre, and freshman Colin Brady each added a steal in the effort.

"A team effort led us to a victory tonight over a game LIU Post team," commented head coach Charles Marquardt.
 
Looking Ahead
The Lions continue league play on Saturday (Dec. 8) as they welcome New York Institute of Technology at 2:00 p.m.
The team, in partnership with the women's basketball team, will be doing a toy drive to benefit the John Theissen Children's Foundation. A donation of a new, unwrapped toy will serve as fans' ticket to the game.
