Four Reach Double Digits in Men's Basketball Victory


Lakewood, N.J. – Four members of the maroon and white reached double digits in an 89-79 victory for the men's basketball team at Georgian Court University. Molloy improved to an even 3-3 on the season with the win.
 
How it Happened
  • The Lions got out to an early lead, 11-4, following at three-pointer from senior Chris O'Reilly in the opening four minutes.
  • The home team took its first lead of the contest two minute later after making three unanswered three-point field goals. A 12-0 run from the maroon and white put the visitors back in front, 23-13, midway through the first half.
  • Molloy's largest lead of the contest, 31-17 came with 6:43 left in the half on a free throw from freshman Billy Muller before the Lions took an eight-point lead into the locker room, 45-37.
  • Georgian Court tied the contest midway through the second half, 56-56, before a 7-0 run from the Lions helped regain the lead.
  • The maroon and white would not relinquish the lead the remainder of the contest, only allowing the home team to come as close as four, 67-63, with just over six minutes to play before earning the 10-point victory.
 
Top Performances
  • Junior Nick Corbett led the Lions with 24 points, going 8-of-14 from the field.
  • Seniors Curtis Jenkins (18) and Mike Torre (17) and junior Josh Dennis (14) joined Corbett in double figures. Torre added a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double as well as two steals.
  • Dennis nabbed a game-high four steals while also dishing out a team-leading six assists.
  • Muller pulled down 10 rebounds while recording two blocks.
 
Coach's Comments
"It was a hard-fought win against a tough Georgian Court team," commented head coach Charles Marquardt. "Strong inside play and timely shooting down the stretch keyed the victory."
 
Looking Ahead
The maroon and white will kick off East Coast Conference play on Wednesday (Dec. 5) at LIU Post. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
