Corbett's Game-Winning Layup Tops Concordia, 88-86

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – A layup from junior Nick Corbett with two seconds on the clock to seal an 88-86 victory for the men's basketball team over Concordia College. The maroon and white improved to 2-3 on the season with the victory.

How it Happened
  • The teams carried a 51-51 tie into the half with Molloy shooting .487 from the field, including .600 from three-point range.
  • Through the first 10 minutes of the second half, neither team was able to pull ahead by more than a field goal.
  • Consecutive baskets, a layup and a dunk, from senior Curtis Jenkins gave the Lions a four-point lead, 79-75.
  • The Clippers tied the contest at 79 with just under five minutes to play.
  • Field goals from Jenkins and freshman Billy Muller gave Molloy another four-point advantage, 86-82, with 90 seconds on the clock.
  • Four points down the stretch from Cedrick McFadden knotted the score, setting Corbett up for his game-winning layup in the final seconds.
  • It was the junior's second game-winning basket of the season, the first coming in an 81-79 victory over Nyack College on Nov. 14.
 
Top Performances
  • Corbett led the maroon and white with 25 points, going 9-of-14 from the field and 5-of-7 from three-point range. The guard added three assists.
  • Muller had his first career double-double with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Senior Mike Torre also totaled 16 points. The pair each added a block in the victory.
  • Jenkins reached double-digits with 14 points.
  • Torre and junior Josh Dennis each dished out 11 helpers and had one steal.

Molloy continues non-conference play as they head to Georgian Court University on Saturday (Dec. 1) at 2:00 p.m.
