Corbett, O'Reilly Net 13 in Loss at Stony Brook

Stony Brook, N.Y. – The men's basketball team fell to Division I Stony Brook University this evening, 97-61 from Island Federal Arena. Molloy fell to 1-3 on the season with the loss.  Junior Nick Corbett and senior Chris O'Reilly each recorded 13 points in the effort. This is the third meeting all-time between the Lions and the Seawolves, but the first since 1996.
 
How it Happened
  • The contest started with the two teams playing back-and-forth with neither able to land many shots. Through the opening three minutes, the score sat at 6-2 in favor of the home team with freshman Billy Muller scoring the lone points for the Lions.
  • Midway through the first half, the Seawolves led, 20-14.
  • At the half, the maroon and white trailed, 46-29.
  • Molloy trailed, 55-34, with 16:49 left to play before back-to-back three-pointers from O'Reilly brought the Lions within 15, 55-40.
  • The Seawolves quickly regained a 22-point lead with 10 minutes on the clock, but another triple from O'Reilly cut the deficit to 70-54 with 7:17.
  • Despite the effort to keep the home team within reach, the maroon and white were unable to get closer to bridging the gap in the final seven minutes before falling, 97-61.
 
Top Performances
  • Corbett went 5-of-16 from the field for his 13 points, adding four assists in the effort. O'Reilly's points game off a 4-of-6 effort from beyond the arc, all within the second half of play.
  • Seniors Curtis Jenkins and Mike Torre each added nine points in the contest, with Jenkins pulling down a team-leading eight rebounds.
  • Jenkins and sophomore Steven Torre each nabbed two steals while Mike Torre and Muller each recorded a block.

"We gave an honest effort tonight," said head coach Charles Marquardt. "A thank you to Stony Brook University and head coach Jeff Boals for the opportunity to compete and get better."
