Volleyball Picks Up Third Straight Victory, Sweeps LIU Post 3-0

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – For the third straight contest, the volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory, this time defeating the Pioneers of LIU Post at Quealy Gymnasium. With the victory, Molloy improved to 10-5 on the season and 5-2 in East Coast Conference play. The Pioneers sit at 12-9 on the campaign and 4-3 in league play.

How it Happened
  • Molloy took a 6-2 lead following a 5-0 run on the serving of sophomore Kacey Affrunti.
  • The Pioneers tied the contest, 7-7. The two teams went back and forth, forcing three additional ties before a four-point run on two kills from junior Sophia Smith and two aces from senior Jeanne Reinis put the Lions in front 15-11. The Lions maintained their lead through the set.
  • Four straight kills from the Pioneers gave the visitors a 5-2 lead in the second set. Molloy battled back, eventually taking an 11-9 lead following a number of errors by LIU Post.
  • The Pioneers would come within one late, 23-22, but a kill from Smith and an error by the Pioneers sealed the set.
  • After see-saw scoring through the third set, the Pioneers took a 17-16 lead before kills from Affrunti and Reinis put Molloy in front, 18-17.
  • Despite tying the contest four times down the stretch, the maroon and white closed out the set on kills from juniors Hailey Wehr and Devon Hagerstrom.
 
Top Perfromances
  • Molloy was led by 11 kills from redshirt senior Carly Banks. The outside hitter also added three blocks on the afternoon.
  • Hagerstrom and Affrunti each added eight kills, with the sophomore putting up a game-high four blocks.
  • Smith tallied 29 helpers, adding seven digs and seven kills.
  • Reinis totaled double-digit digs (13) while adding two aces.
  • Junior libero Jessica Fischetti led the match with 15 digs.
 
 
Looking Ahead
Molloy begins its second swing through the ECC on Wednesday (Oct. 10) at Queens College. The match is slated for 7:00 p.m.
