Volleyball Blanks Queens, 3-0, for Fourth Straight Victory

Flushing, N.Y. – The volleyball team defeated Queens College, 3-0, in East Coast Conference play this evening, improving to 11-5 on the season and 6-2 in league play. The victory is Molloy's fourth straight 3-0 victory and completes the sweep of the Knights on the season.

How it Happened
  • The Lions took advantage of a 5-0 run, featuring two aces from freshman Nicole Wagner, to take a 10-2 lead.
  • The Knights would come within four, 14-10, before Molloy took a 23-11 lead following a 6-0 run. Queens would take four of the next five points, but senior Jeanne Reinis ended the set with a kill, 25-15.
  • The maroon and white held the home team to just seven points in the second set, exploding to a 13-2 lead after taking nine straight points. On the set, Molloy attacked at .280 while allowing just one kill from the Knights
  • Two errors to start the final set gave Queens its first lead of the evening. Molloy would eventually pull ahead, 13-8.
  • A kill from the Knights brought the home team within four, 13-9, but the maroon and white exploded for 12 unanswered points on the serving of sophomore Kacey Affrunti to end the contest.
Top Performances
  • Redshirt junior Carly Banks led with a match-high 12 kills, attacking at .346. Affrunti, junior Devon Hagerstrom, and sophomore Maggie Lavelle each added five.
  • Affrunti also tallied four digs and a game-high four service aces.
  • Sophomore Alexa Morgan led the Lions with a career-high 10 digs while racking up a service ace of her own.
 
Looking Ahead
Molloy steps out of conference play on Friday (Oct. 12) as they welcome Bentley University to Quealy Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
