Volleyball Streak Continues with 3-1 Victory Over Bentley

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Led by 14 kills from sophomore Kacey Affrunti, the volleyball team picked up its fifth straight win, defeating Bentley University, 3-1, this evening in Quealy Gymnasium. Molloy improved to 12-5 on the season with the victory while the loss set the Falcons at 7-12.

How it Happened
  • Molloy pulled in front early in the first set, capitalizing on an eight-point run on the serving of junior Sophia Smith to go up, 11-3. Bentley was able to come within three, 14-11, but ultimately fell short.
  • The Lions fell victim to a four-point run to put the Falcons ahead, 17-12, in an underwhelming second set for the home team. Molloy would come within two late, 22-20.
  • After an even start to the third set, the maroon and white were able to pull away following a five-point run, setting the score at 14-7. Molloy took advantage of Bentley errors to close out the set, 25-17.
  • The final set was tied ten times before the Lions were able to string together a three-point run on an attack error, a service ace from senior Meaghan Carr, and a kill from senior Jeanne Reinis to go in front 21-18. The home team maintained its advantage through the final points to earn the victory.
 
Top Performances
  • Affrunti's 14 kills paced the match. The sophomore attacked at .357 clip while adding two aces four digs, and two assists.
  • Redshirt junior Carly Banks also reached double-digits with 12 kills.
  • Freshman Nicole Wagner tallied 11 digs and accounted for four of Molloy's 14 service aces on the evening.
  • The rookie was joined in double digits by Carr (13), Reinis (17), Fischetti (22), and Smith (10), who also added 36 assists for a double-double.
 
Looking Ahead
The Lions return to action tomorrow as they head to Holy Family University for a tri-match. Molloy will face Georgian Court University at 1:00 p.m. before facing the host Tigers at 3:00 p.m.
