Men's Basketball Falls at STAC

Sparkill, N.Y. (Jan. 27, 2018) – The men's basketball team fell to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College, 82-58, in East Coast Conference play earlier this afternoon at Aquinas Hall. The Lions fall to 4-17, 3-8 ECC with the loss while the victory sets the Spartans at 18-4, 9-1 ECC.

Junior Curtis Jenkins tallied 10 points in the first half, helping the maroon and white to a two-point, 34-32 lead at the half. A trey from the guard gave Molloy its largest lead of the game, 10-6, in the first three minutes of play. The remainder of the first frame saw back-and-forth action, with no team pulling in front by more than four points. The home team tied the contest, 32-32, with 52 seconds on the clock before sophomore Josh Dennis sunk two free throws to give the Lions a two-point advantage headed into the second half.

STAC, however, had an explosive second half, scoring 50 points. The Spartans pulled together a 19-7 run to take an 11-point lead mid-way through the frame. In the remaining minutes, the home team continued its marathon scoring, pulling ahead by as much as 27 points, 82-55, with 14 seconds to play. Sophomore Keenan Loder hit a three-pointer with four seconds on the clock to end the contest with the Spartans in front, 82-58.

Jenkins led the maroon and white with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists, three steals, and one block. Junior Mike Torre and sophomore Nolan Kelly each scored eight points while sophomore Nick Corbett and freshman Steven Torre added seven each.

Molloy will face Queens College on Saturday (Feb. 3) at 3:30 p.m.
