Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Jan. 21, 2018) – The men's basketball team fell, 77-69, to Roberts Wesleyan College in East Coast Conference play. Molloy slips to 3-16 (2-7 ECC) while the Redhawks improve to 13-5 (6-3 ECC).
The Lions were led by 18 points (7-of-13) from
Curtis Jenkins. The junior also added five rebounds, four assists, and one block. Junior
Mike Torre tallied 11 points, a team-high eight boards, two blocks, and two steals.
The Redhawks opened to a 15-6 lead in the first seven minutes of action before Molloy responded with a 15-4 run to take its first lead of the afternoon, 21-19, with 8:34 left in the half. With 3:24 on the clock, a triple from sophomore
Nolan Kelly (nine points, three steals) gave the home team its largest lead of the game, 31-26. Roberts Wesleyan closed the half on a 7-2 run to knot the score 33-33 at the break.
The visitors took an advantage in the second half, extending to as much as 12 points, 67-55, including a 12-2 run midway through the frame. The Lions, on the back of strong foul shooting (14-of-17) chipped away at the deficit, coming within four, 69-65, with 1:14 on the clock. The Redhawks scored eight of the final 12 points of the contest to walk away with the 77-69 victory.
The team returns to the court for the second half of its ECC schedule on Wednesday (Jan. 24) as the Lions host the University of the District of Columbia at 7:00 p.m.
