Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2018) – Despite having two 20-point scorers, the Molloy men's basketball team fell to Daemen College, 82-74. The loss drops the Lions to 3-15 on the season and 2-6 in East Coast Conference play, while the Wildcats improve to 12-6 (6-2 ECC) with the victory.
Sophomore
Nick Corbett led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 8-of-15. Junior
Curtis Jenkins notched a double-double, scoring 20 points and pulling down 10 rebounds while adding three assists and a game-high five steals. Sophomore
Josh Dennis rounded out the top scorers with 18 points and seven boards.
Molloy took its lone lead of the contest in the opening minute of play, as Dennis sunk a foul shot to complete a three-point play to put the maroon and white in front, 3-2. The Wildcats regained the lead on a triple from Jeff Redband. Although Daemen would take as much as a 13 point lead, 29-16, the Lions ended the half on a six-point run to bridge the gap to just five points, 38-33.
Corbett opened the half for the Lions with back-to-back treys to set the score at 44-39, keeping Molloy within five points. With just under seven minutes to play, the Wildcats led by 15, 73-58. A 10-0 run from the maroon and white cut the deficit to five, 73-68, with three and a half minutes remaining. Daemen went back up by double-digits, 78-68, with 90 seconds on the clock. A layup from Jenkins brought Molloy within six, 80-74, with 10 seconds to play, but the Wildcats ended the contest with two free throws from Darius Garvin to seal the victory.
The Lions will return to action on Sunday (Jan. 21) as they welcome Roberts Wesleyan College to Quealy Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
