North Andover, Mass. (Sept. 3, 2017) – The Molloy men's soccer team was defeated by the Merrimack Warriors, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at Martone-Mejail Field. The Lions move to 1-1 with the loss.
The maroon and white opened the scoring in the 25
th minute. Junior
Daniel Massey (Warrington, England) touched a pass from sophomore
Anthony Cestaro (Massapequa, N.Y.) into the net to make it 1-0.
Merrimack (2-0) knotted the score, 1-1, in the 36
th minute on a goal from Joshue Ruiz Maya (Madero, Mexico).
The Lions had a chance to take the lead in the 50
th minute, but sophomore
Paul Morales' (Jackson Heights, N.Y) shot was denied.
The Warriors took the lead, 2-1, in the 78
th minute after Juan Meza (Cali, Colombia) found the back of the net.
Massey, who took two shots, had a chance to tie the contest, but directed a header wide in the 79
th minute.
Molloy had another opportunity to even the score, but sophomore
Angelo Bordenca (Flushing, N.Y.) had his shot stopped.
Junior goalkeeper
Raul Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.) made six saves in the loss.
The maroon and white wrap up their three-game road trip Wednesday, Sept. 6 when they travel to play Adelphi. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
