Volleyball Defeats Caldwell, 3-1

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2017) – East Coast Conference Rookie of the Week Kacey Affrunti (Levittown, N.Y.) led all attackers with 19 kills in a 3-1 victory over Caldwell University for Molloy's volleyball team. The win sets the Lions at 13-2 on the season while Caldwell falls to 9-3 with the loss.

The Lions took a 1-0 lead, taking 10 of the final 14 points of the first set.  The Cougars jumped out to a 13-8 lead in the second set. Despite coming within one, 15-14, the Lions fell victim to a five point rally to drop the set 25-20.

In set three, Molloy ran to take eight of 10 points before claiming a 25-18 victory over Caldwell. The maroon and white ended the contest in the fourth set by scoring six straight points on freshman Emily Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.)'s serving, including a service ace from the rookie to seal the game.

Affunti hit at .471 on the evening, totaling 19.5 points. Redshirt sophomore Carly Banks (Camas, Wash.) and sophomore Hailey Wehr (Wading River, N.Y.) each reached double-digits, totaling 15 and 11 kills, respectively. Senior libero Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) tallied 31 digs while sophomore Jessica Fischetti (Seaford, N.Y.), Meyer, and junior Meaghan Carr (Mineola, N.Y.) reached double-digits chipping in 14, 11, and 10, respectively. O'Neill, Fischetti, Carr, and Meyer all finished with two assists while sophomore Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas) recorded 46, adding five kills, six digs, and one block.

In a successful night from the service line, Meyer, Fischetti, and sophomore Devon Hagerstrom (Bethpage, N.Y.) each tallied two aces while O'Neill and sophomore Shannon Wren (Lynbrook, N.Y.) added one.

The Lions step back into conference action on Wednesday (Sept. 27) as they head to Flushing, N.Y. for a contest with Queens College at 7:00 p.m.
