Men's Soccer Slips to Jefferson, 3-2

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Sept. 21, 2017) – The Molloy men's soccer team was defeated by the Jefferson Rams, 3-2, Thursday evening at John A. Darcy Field. The Lions move to 2-5 with the loss. Senior Adam Carnwath (Fleet, England) and sophomore Anthony Cestaro (Massapequa, N.Y.) scored for the maroon and white.

Jefferson (4-2) outshot Molloy 9-4 in the first half. Junior Raul Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.) made all three of his saves in the first stanza to keep the match scoreless at the break.

The Lions jumped on top, 1-0, in the 46th minute. On a corner, freshman Jason Alvarez (Valley Stream, N.Y.) sent the ball into the box, and Carnwath was able to find the back of the net.

Molloy struck again in the 65th minute. Cestaro headed home a cross from Carnwath to bring the advantage to 2-0.

The Rams answered back seconds later on a goal from Pedro Neto.

Jefferson, which outshot the Lions 15-10, evened the score, 2-2, on a tally from Myles-Jordan Senior-Campbell. The visitors jumped ahead, 3-2, less than two minutes later after Rashaan Robe scored.

Down a goal, Molloy had chances to tie the score. Its best chance came in the 90th minute when sophomore Lukas Firestone (Ellsworth, Maine) had one shot denied and fired the rebound over the net.

The Lions return to action Saturday, Sept. 23, when they head to Rochester to play Roberts Wesleyan. Kickoff with the Red Hawks is slated for 3:30 p.m.
