Carnwath's Hat Trick leads Men's Soccer Past Queens

Flushing, N.Y. (Sept. 16,2017) – Senior Adam Carnwath's (Fleet, England) hat trick led the Molloy men's soccer team to a 5-4 victory over the Queens Knights Saturday afternoon at the Queens College Soccer Field. The Lions improve to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in East Coast Conference play with the win. Junior Daniel Massey (Warrington, England) added two goals for the maroon and white.

The Lions opening the scoring in the 14th minute. Carnwath received a pass from sophomore Anthony Cestaro (Massapequa, N.Y.) and put it into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

The Knights (3-3, 0-1 ECC) evened the score in the 40th minute on a tally from Paul Hayes (Cutchogue, N.Y.).

Molloy would answer back in the 45th minute. Massey netted a pass from sophomore Sean Moore (Baldwin, N.Y.) to put the road team back ahead, 2-1, with 20 seconds remaining in the half.

Queens would knot the match, 2-2, in the 55th minute after Andras Breuer (Budapest, Hungary) scored.

Like they did in the first half, the maroon and white regained the lead. Massey converted on a penalty kick for his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 61st minute, and in the 62nd minute, Carnwath recorded his second of the day to increase the lead to 4-2.

Carnwath then finished a cross from Cestaro, who logged two assists, to bring the advantage to 5-2 in the 68th minute.

The Knights, who outshot the Lions 29-14, scored two goals to cut Molloy's lead to 5-4, but couldn't record the equalizer.

Junior keeper Raul Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.) registered eight saves in the win.

The Lions return to action Tuesday, Sept. 18, when they travel to play ECC-foe LIU Post.  Kickoff with the Pioneers is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
