Caldwell, N.J. (Sept. 13, 2017) – The Molloy men's soccer team fell to the Caldwell Cougars, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon at the Caldwell Athletic Fields. The Lions move to 1-4 in the loss. Sophomore
Michael Jimenez (Queens Village, N.Y.) scored for the maroon and white in the 79
th minute.
Caldwell (2-3-1) struck first in the 31
st minute on a goal from sophomore Luca Cacciottolo (Boonton, N.J.). The Lions, who outshot the Cougars 10-2 in the first half, looked to tie the score before the half, but failed to find the back of the net.
In the second, junior Tom Yorston (Northamptonshire, United Kingdom) netted a goal for the Cougars in the 76
th minute to increase the home team's lead to 2-0.
Molloy answered three minutes later, Jimenez kicked a throw in from sophomore
Lukas Firestone (Ellsworth, Maine) into the net to cut Caldwell's lead to 2-1.
Down a goal, the maroon and white couldn't find a way to knot the score in the final 11 minutes.
Freshman
Conor Rowbottom (Chester, England) and sophomore
Anthony Cestaro (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the Lions with three shots apiece. Junior goalkeeper
Raul Bonilla (Brentwood, N.Y.) made five saves in the loss.
Molloy returns to action Saturday, Sept. 16, when it opens ECC play against Queens. Kickoff against the Knights is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
