WATERBURY, CONN. (Sept. 10, 2017) – Two more three set victories this afternoon propelled Molloy's volleyball team to the best start in the program's 27 year history. In the second day of the Post Eagles Invitational, the maroon and white defeated both Bloomfield College and the College of Saint Rose by a score of 3-0 to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Game One – Molloy v. Bloomfield
25-10, 25-15, 25-15
Molloy was led by redshirt sophomore
Carly Banks (Camas, Wash.), who totaled eight kills in the contest, while freshman
Kacey Affrunti (Levittown, N.Y.) added seven. Sophomore
Shannon Wren (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and freshman
Emily Meyer (St. John the Baptist) each added five kills, with the freshman totaling a game-high five service aces. Sophomore
Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas) chipped in 23 assists in the victory while attacking at a game-high .571. In the back row, senior
Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) compiled 15 digs.
Game Two: Molloy v. Saint Rose
25-9, 25-16, 25-17
Against the Golden Knights, Banks and Affrunti once again led the offensive effort, tallying 11 and 9 kills, respectively, while sophomore
Hailey Wehr (Wading River, N.Y.) added eight. In the effort, Smith posted 35 assists. O'Neill totaled double-digit digs (13) while junior
Meaghan Carr (Mineola, N.Y.) and Meyer each ended with six. Meyer also added another three aces on the afternoon.
The Lions return to Quealy Gymnasium on Saturday (Sept. 16) as they welcome Bentley University and Georgian Court University to Rockville Centre for the team's final tri-match of the season. The event kicks off at 11:00 a.m. against Bentley.
