AMHERST, N.Y. (February 18, 2017)- The Molloy women's basketball team fell to the Daemen College Wildcats, 70-50, Saturday afternoon. The Lions, who have lost three consecutive games, move to 18-8 overall and 10-6 in East Coast Conference play.

Kamala Thompson (Selden, N.Y.) recorded a double-double, with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore
Ihnacinse Grady (Amityville, N.Y.) netted 10 points in the losing effort. Leah McDonell (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) netted 17 points for Daemen, which improved to 11-13 overall and 8-8 in the ECC.
The teams started the game trading baskets. With Daemen ahead 7-6, the Wildcats scored six of the game's next eight points to open a 13-8 lead. The Lions scored the next four points on back to back baskets from Thompson and freshman
Maya Joyner (North Babylon, N.Y.) to cut the home team's lead to one, 13-12. Sarah Saba (Lancaster, N.Y.) hit a jumper to give Daemen a 15-12 edge at the end of the first quarter.
Molloy opened the second quarter with an 8-0 run, led by five points from Thompson and three points from
Kathryn Gibson (Neponsit, N.Y.) to take a 20-15 lead. The Wildcats, who shot 5-of-10 from three in the first half, answered with a 19-4 rally and took a 34-24 lead into the half.
Grady, who scored 10 points in the second half, opened the third with a jump shot to cut the Wildcats' lead to 34-26. The home team responded with a 9-2 run, led by five point from Jesse DeWaters (Lockport, N.Y.), who scored 10 points, and four points from McDonell, to increase its lead to 43-28. Ahead 48-34, Daemen ended the third frame with seven straight points to make it 55-34.
Daemen, which had four players score in double figures, limited the Lions attempt at a comeback in the fourth quarter.
Molloy returns to action Wednesday (Feb. 22) when it hosts the University of the District of Columbia; tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
