Charlie Marquardt (Rockaway Park, N.Y.) hit a three-pointer with four seconds remaining to lift the Molloy Lions to a 73-71 victory over the Daemen Wildcats Saturday afternoon. The Lions, who have won two straight games, improve to 15-10 overall and 11-5 in the East Coast Conference.

Jaylen Morris (Amherst, N.Y.) scored a team-high 21 points. Marquardt netted 19 points, and freshman
Nick Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.) tallied 16 points. Deion Hamilton (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded a game-high 22 points for Daemen, which dropped to 16-8 overall and 10-6 in ECC play.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early advantage. With the score 12-9, Hamilton scored five straight points to make it an eight-point game, 17-9. With the home team ahead 20-14, the Lions put together an 11-4 rally, led by five points from Marquardt and four from Corbett, to take a 25-24 edge. Daemen used an 8-0 run later in the first stanza to go ahead 36-28. Marquardt hit a pair of free-throws to cut the lead to 40-34 at the half.
Morris netted the first five points of the second half to make it a one-point game, 40-39. Hamilton concluded a span of seven straight points with a three to make it 48-39. Molloy came right back with seven consecutive points of its own to make it 48-46. With the score 55-54, senior
Mike Guzzardi (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) made a layup to put the road team up 56-55. Daemen regained the lead and extended it to five, 63-58, on a jumper from Jaleo Wilkes (Niagara Falls, N.Y.). The Lions then answered with six straight points and went ahead, 64-63, after Corbett made a layup. The teams exchanged the lead until Wilkes scored to make it 71-70. The basket set up Marquardt's last second heroics, which led Molloy to a 73-71 win.
The Lions return to action Wednesday (Feb.22) when they host the University of the District of Columbia; tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
