Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Dec. 6, 2017) - The Molloy basketball team saw four reached double-digit points, despite falling to undefeated East Stroudsburg University (7-0), 95-74. The Lions (2-7), who shot 42.6 percent from the field were led by a game-high 16 points from both sophomore Nolan Kelly and junior Mike Torre.
Sophomore Nick Corbett and freshman Steven Torre tallied 12 and 11 points respectively for the maroon and white. Torre and junior Curtis Jenkins topped the team with three assists each while Mike Torre nabbed two steals. Redshirt freshman Justin Caldwell pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
The Warriors started strong out of the gate, pulling ahead by 14, 22-8 in the first five minutes of play before leading by as much as 18 in the first half. The Lions, led by 10 first half points from both Kelly and Mike Torre, cut the deficit to within 13. Ralik Wise put up a layup with two seconds on the clock to end the half with East Stroudsburg on top, 53-38.
Triples from both Torres paired with layups from sophomore Josh Dennis helped the maroon and white cut the lead to 10 points, 63-53, early in the second frame. The Warriors responded with a 13-2 run to go up 76-55 with 10 minutes to play. Molloy would come within 15, 78-63, but were unable to close the gap in the final minutes of action.
The team returns to East Coast Conference play on Saturday (Dec. 9) against Queens College at 2:00 p.m. in Quealy Gymnasium.
