Orangeburg, N.Y. (Nov. 18, 2017) - The Molloy men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2017-18 season, defeating Caldwell University, 63-61, at the Sixth Annual Daniel Sullivan Memorial Tournament, hosted by Dominican College.

The maroon and white were led by 17 points off the bench from junior Mike Torre. Junior Curtis Jenkins and sophomore Nick Corbett each joined Torre in double-digits, totaling 14 points in the effort. Torre, along with redshirt freshman Justin Caldwell added a game-high seven rebounds while Jenkins nabbed three steals. Freshman Steven Torre chopped in six assists.

Molloy jumped out to an eight point lead, 10-2. Midway through the first half, triples from the younger Torre and sophomore Nolan Kelly, paired with layups from sophomores Keenan Loder and Arthur Scott, the Lions took their largest lead of the contest, 20-7. The Cougars spent the final 10 minutes of the opening frame chipping away at the lead, eventually coming within four, 27-23, at the break.

The score would knot four times in the opening minutes of the second half until the maroon and white were able to pull ahead by four, 48-44, after a triple from Torre with under 10 minutes left to play. With 2:06 left on the clock, Corbett hit back-to-back three-pointers to increase Molloy's lead to 61-54. Caldwell would come within one in the final five seconds of play, but two foul shots from Corbett sealed a 63-61 victory for the maroon and white.

The Lions will take on host Dominican in their second game of the tournament tonight (Nov. 18) at 8:00 p.m.
