Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Oct. 25, 2017) – The volleyball team continued its season sweeps with a 3-0 victory over Queens College in Quealy Gymnasium. The victory brings the Lions to 19-5 on the season and 8-2 in East Coast Conference play. Sophomore
Sophia Smith (Georgetown, Texas) tallied 40 assists, bringing her season total to 955, eclipsing her own record for single-season helpers of 915.

The Lions roared out of the gate, pulling ahead to a 14-5 lead in the first set. The Knights battled back to within six, 20-14, but an ace from sophomore
Devon Hagerstrom (Bethpage, N.Y.) paired with kills from the middle blocker and sophomore
Hailey Wehr (Wading River, N.Y.) pushed Molloy in front 23-14. Freshman
Kacey Affrunti (Levittown, N.Y.) added a kill, one of her game-leading 12 on the evening, before the Lions took the 25-15 victory.
The teams battled back and forth in the second set with neither able to pull ahead by more than two points. A kill from Affrunti finally gave the maroon and white a 22-19 lead. Wehr tallied a kill to send the match to what would have been set point, 24-20, but the Knights persevered and took the next five points to take a 25-24 lead. The game would be tied, 26-26, before an error by the Knights and kill from sophomore
Shannon Wren (Lynbrook, N.Y.) gave the Lions the two-point lead they needed to seal the set.
On the serving of junior
Meaghan Carr (Mineola, N.Y.), Molloy rallied for eight straight points in the final set, including three kills from both Afffrunti and freshman
Emily Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.). Queens tallied their final point of the night to make it 19-6, but the maroon and white closed out the contest with another six-point run, 25-6.
Senior
Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) recorded 26 digs in the effort, bringing her to 252 short of tying the program's all-time record of 1667. Also chasing a record, eight kills from redshirt sophomore
Carly Banks (Camas, Wash.) brings her to 331 on the year, just 32 shy of the single-season kill record.
Molloy heads to Mercy College on Tuesday (Oct. 31) to face the Mavericks at 7:00 p.m.
