Emily Meyer (Seaford, N.Y.) sealed the win for the Lions with two service aces. The Mavericks played to an 8-8 tie to start the second set, but a kill from Affrunti brought the serve back to Meyer and the Lions rallied for seven unanswered points to take a 15-8 lead. Despite coming back within four, 24-20, the long rally was too much for Mercy to overcome.
In the third set, however, the home team pulled ahead. Paired with a poor hitting performance from the Lions, Mercy earned the close 25-23 set victory.
The maroon and white jolted to action in the fourth set, leading by as much as 18-7 after strong serving from Smith. Ultimately, Molloy took the set, 25-11, fueled by a .444 hitting percentage from its attackers.
Smith added another double-double, digging 13 balls to match her 57 helpers. She also chipped in a career-high five aces on the performance, while Meyer added three. Wren and sophomore
Hailey Wehr (Wading River, N.Y.) each added three blocks. Senior
Dakota O'Neill (Long Beach, N.Y.) totaled 20 digs while adding seven assists while junior
Meaghan Carr (Mineola, N.Y.) added 16 digs.
